Nong Bua Lamphu
Tham Pha Wiang Nong Bua Lamphu Nong Bua Lamphu became the 76th province of Thailand in 1993. It has an area of 3,859,626 square kilometers. Situated on the northeastern plateau, before separation, Nong Bua Lam Phu was part of Udon Thani. The area has long history, archeological artifacts found in this area indicate that there were human’s settlements in Nong Bua Lam Phu since the pre-historical era and there are fossils in the region that are 140 million years old. Nong Bua Lamphu town was established by Laotian people from across the Mekong River about 200 years ago. Today, Nong Bua Lam Phu is a district filled with natural and beautiful attractions including Phu Kao Phupan Kham National Park, the Phu Phan mountain range, and Erawan Cave, which features a large Buddha at its entrance.

Nong Bua Lam Phu is also rich with cultural attractions, such as archeological sites and interesting local handicrafts villages. For those looking for spiritual tranquility, Wat Tham Klong Phen, located in the forests outside of the provincial capital, was home to one of the most famous practitioners of Buddhist Meditation and a museum there is dedicated in his honor.

Tham Erawan Festival
Tham Erawan Nong Bua Lamphu When: 11 April
Where: Wang Thong Rd., Wang Thong Sub-district, Na Wang District
Tham Erawan Festival is held annually in April. Buddhist will climb up the mountain and pay homage to the Buddha image in Erawan cave. In the event, there are agricultural products selling, OTOP products and beauty contests.

Bang Fai (Thai Rocket) Festival
When: June
Where: The field of Sri Boonruang District
The lively festival is held annually on the fullmoon day of May at the field of Sri Boonruang District. Rocket in huge size, or Bang Fai Lan, will be decorated before launching high into the sky. The local festival of Sri Boonruang is one of 12 festivals of Northeastern Region. The rocket is assumed as the present for Phaya Thaen, the god who will make the rain for rice plantation.
