Dive Sites in Krabi

Krabi covers miles of mainland beaches as well as over 80 smaller tropical islets, including Phi Phi and Lanta islands. Visibility is excellent, and one often can see up to 20 meters of cascading terrains and superb underwater scenery. Being also part of Thailand’s efforts in marine conservation, you can expect tremendous diversity with over 200 species of fish and 80 species of corals. All this is set amidst big drop-offs, swim-throughs, wall dives, underwater caves and caverns, making the whole experience truly adventurous and unforgettable.

1 Garang Heng

Location : Koh Phi Phi Ley Garang Heng Off the east coast of Koh Phi Phi Ley perches this submerged mall of soft coral garden. Densely populating this area is a kaleidoscope of anemones and barrel sponges. Immense schools of snappers and fusiliers converge here. There's a good chance you'll see several leopard sharks lounging in this area too.

2 Hin Daeng & Hin Muang

Location : South of Phi Phi Island Hin Daeng & Hin Muang Hin Daeg & Hin Muang These two pinnacles are located about 60 kms to the south of Phi Phi, completely surrounded by the open sea and 15 kms from the nearest island. These sites are a favorite destination for short live-aboards out of Phuket and Phi Phi.

3 King Cruiser Wreck

Location : East of Phuket, between Phuket and Phi Phi Island King Cruiser Wreck King Cruiser Wreck The King Cruiser was an 85m catamaran-style ferry that ran regular trips between Phuket and Phi Phi. The ship sunk on May 4, 1997 without loss of life in calm seas after tearing its hull on a shoal, apparently due to a simple navigational error. This provided Phuket's divers with a great wreck dive which Phuket had been conspicuously lacking. The wreck lies approximately 1km south-east from Shark Point. A large variety of marine life has been attracted to the wreck, although coral growth will take some time.

4 Koh Ha Yai

Location : South West of Phi Phi Islands Koh Ha Yai This southern-most island of the Koh Ha series provides all divers with an exciting adventure. At about 5 meters depth on the southwest of the island, a cave opens up into a magnificent air pocket that towers to 30 meters above sea level. You can then exit this cathedral through another cave opening, at about 16 meters depth, that guides you to the east side of the island. Do not expect a single moment of lacklustre on this dive. You could catch sight of a motley of stringy sea whips, huge fans, large rays, turtles and leopard sharks during the dive.

5 Koh Yung Pinnacle

Location : North East of Koh Yung Koh Yung Pinnacle Koh Yung Pinnacle is located on the north-eastern point of Koh Yung (Mosquito) Island, about 4 kilometers north of Koh Phi Phi Don. It is one of the best dive sites in this group of islands although it is seldom dived due to the difficulty of locating it. The pinnacle descends amidst masses of vibrant soft coral, to a depth of 36 meters. The resident sting rays and leopard sharks are a sheer delight to the senses. This site has strong currents and is suitable only for advanced divers.

6 Koh Yung South

Location : North of Phi Phi Don Koh Yung South With the mild currents around Koh Yung, this dive site is most suitable for beginner divers to gain experience and confidence in the water, and at the same time, immerse into the pleasures of being surrounded by marine life. Stretching out over a gentle terrain, the shallow coral reef opens itself out into a picturesque garden that unveils a wide and psychedelic variety of schooling fish.

7 Loh Samah Bay (Ao Loh Samah)

Location : Phi Phi Ley Loh Samah Bay Loh Samah Bay offers sheltered shore diving that provides quality scuba diving off Phi Phi year round. Canyon and wall diving with an abundance and variety of marine life and corals. Often used for beginers this scuba site has enough to offer a seasoned pro at least dives. The highlight of this Phi Phi diving site is a narrow 15m deep canyon on the east side. The canyon is wide enough for you to swim through single file, and is home to turtles and is lined with colourful gorgonians, soft corals and sea whips.

8 Maya Bay (Ao Maya)

Location : Phi Phi Ley Maya Bay The Maya Bay on the Phi Phi Ley is shallow with crystal clear water and splendid coral formations. Both novice and experienced divers are drawn to Maya Bay, because of its abundant rock formation that drops to a depth of 18 meters; and just outside the bay - the 30 meter wall dive with caves, valleys and swim-throughs made by underwater rock formations. Snorkeling is also popular in Maya Bay. The visibility is unlimited in gentle waters, and the experience is nothing short of magnificent. It is said that Maya Bay has the most stunning beach in Phi Phi, and embraces luxury with the fragrance of orange jasmines lacing the wealthy rural Maya Bay Thai village nestled in the bay.

9 Phi Phi Island (Koh Phi Phi)

Location : South East of Phuket Phi Phi Island Phi Phi Island Popular with divers on day trips and as well as those who come to stay on Phi Phi Don, the largest of the Phi Phi islands, the underwater scenery in the area is as spectacular as it is above water. Often considered too busy by serious divers who prefer quieter dive sites, there are good reasons for its popularity. The area has some excellent dive sites. In particular, the islands offer several cave dives and many impressive wall dives. Currents are generally weak and though visibility is fair, it's rarely excellent.

10 Shark Point

Location : East of Phuket Shark Point Shark Point in Thai, is a designated Marine Sanctuary with three separate reefs located about 25 kilometers east of Phuket. Made up of a series of seven adjacent pinnacles, Shark Point features gorgonian sea fans, mushroom coral, bamboo sharks, leopard sharks, sea snakes, moray eels, puffer fish, and dainty seahorses. Most divers prefer the sights around the first and second pinnacles, but there is abundant marine life throughout the entire area. As the diving depth range here is from 0 to 28 meters and the currents are variable but generally mild, Shark Point is suitable for beginning divers and up.
