Yarang Ancient
Town
Location : Amphoe Yarang
The city was one of the oldest communities in the history of the southern
part of Thailand. It is believed that it was the location of the ancient
kingdom of Lanka Suka which had its boundary covering the area of Songkhla,
Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat of Thailand, Kalantan and Tarang Kanu of Malaysia
according to the documents of China, Java, Malayia, and Arab. It was a port
with long wide trading history with the foreigners since B.E.12. The structure
of the ancient town was the large oval shape in the area of 9 sq km.
The Krue Se
Mosque (Chao Mae Kim Kor Niew Shrine)
Location : Amphoe Mueang
This mosque is on highway no.42 (Pattani - Narathiwat route) at Ban Krue
Se, and is about 7 km from the Pattani town. At present, this ancient
venue is near Chao Mae Lim Ko Niao Chinese Shrine. Both places had their
legend of the relationship depending on the beliefs. This mosque has round
pillars which is the middle-east arts style. The most important part is
the domes roof which has never been finished. It has been assured that this
mosque was built during the reign of King Naresuan the Great (1578 - 1593).

Located on Yarang Road on Yarang - Pattani route in Pattani Mucipality,
this is the most beautiful and largest mosques in Thailand. Built in 1954,
the construction of this mosque took almost nine years. It is the centre
for religious ceremonies to be performed by the Muslims in the South. The
architecture is western, with similarity to the Taj Mahal of India. With
the big dome in the centre, there are four surrounding small ones with two
finerets. A big pond is in front of the mosque and inside is a large hall
and two sided corridors

Adherents of the Lim h Niew Goddess
in the province fashion her image in cashew nut tree (the same type of wood
on which the Goddess hung herself) and place them in the shrine which is
revered by both the townspeople and neighboring townships. Ceremonies to
pay respect the Goddess and a procession in her honor are held every year
during February-March (3rd month of the lunar calendar).
Location : Amphoe Nongjik
Located about 10 km on the route Pattani - Khok Pho in Nong Chik,
this ancient Wat was built in 1845 on the same occasion of moving the Nong
Chik District Office to Tambon Tuyong. It was formally called Wat Tuyong,
and was changed to Wat Mutjarintawapiwihan on the state visit of King Rama
V to Nong Chik. At present, its temple is still beautiful.
Location : Amphoe Khok Pho
This old monastery was built for
more than 300 years, with the sculpture of Luang Pu Tuad, once an abbot
of the temple. Also, the architecture of stupa, chedi, temple, and bell
tower are magnificently beautiful. Luang Pu Thuat, Wat Chang Hai, being
respected by people all over the country, Luang Pu Thuat was an educational
monk It was told that he was able to turn sea water into fresh water. Died
in Malaysia, his body was brought back to Wat Chang Hai. The annual festival
to pay respect to his bone and ashes is in April. At Wat Chang Hai, visitors
can pay respect during 08.00 am. - 05.00 pm. daily.
Khatichon Witthaya Museum
Location : Amphoe Mueang
displays
the stories, case studies of the Muslim household in the Southern border
provinces, local utensils, local arts and displays, ancient utensil materials
in pre-historic and the beginning of community periods, history of the ancient
town of Yarang, pottery, local beliefs and technology.

1. Phra Thepyanmoli Museum displays the history, activities, and utensils
of Phra Thepyanmoli. Besides, there are Buddha images, ancient materials,
and Chinese, European and Thai pottery, souvenir coins, and bank notes,
etc.
2. Khatichon Witthaya Museum displays the stories, case studies of the
Muslim household in the Southern border provinces, local utensils, local
arts and displays, ancient utensil materials in pre-historic and the beginning
of community periods, history of the ancient town of Yarang, pottery, local
beliefs and technology.
This centre is open on Mondays - Fridays during
09.00 am. - 11.30 am. and 01.00 pm.- 04.00 pm.
Palas Market
Location : Amphoe Panare
Being approximately
30 km from Pattani by highway no.42, the market can be visited in
the morning of every Wednesday and Sunday. Also, this venue reflects the
real rural lifestyle of the southern Thai Muslims whereby shoppers are clad
in their local costumes and colorful batik head bands.
The Saikhao Waterfall National
Park
Location : Amphoe Panare
At Tambon Khok
Pho, Khok Pho District, is about 30 km from the provincial town of Pattani
along Highway no.409. The national park is part of the Sankalakhiri mountain
range. Fertile and verdant, it is home to countless plant life worth studying.
It boasts on less than three scenic waterfalls, the Saikhao which is the
most beautiful, the Phong Phong and the Aranvarin.

From Pattani town by taking Highway
no.42 for about 16 km, Then turning into an asphalt road for 3 km to
the beach. It is a scenic lined with shade-proving pine trees, eminently
suitable for rest and recreation. A fleet of the local Korlae boats line
up along the shore.

(Tachee Cape) is also located at Tambon
Talohkapor. It can be reacted by land from Pattani, which is about 30 km
always but the distance by sea is only 5 km The scenery is quite striking,
with the sun rising out of the sea in the morning and dipping behind Pattani
town in the evening.
Location : Amphoe Khok Pho

Located at the Tambon Ban Nam Bor, Panareh District, is about 30 km from
the provincial town. It is located along a small bay of the Ta Phra Cape,
a low hillock. Here beach is of yellow fine sand, with rock formations standing
at places. It is a public beach popular with both the local people and visitors
who enjoy its natural scenic beauty.

This beach is about 18 km
from Pattani town. The way to get to the beach is to go along highway no.42
(Pattani - Narathiwat route, turn left at Amphoe Yaring, cross Yamu canal
and pass the forest area and villages. With its long white sand, line of
pines and coconut trees, this beach is one of the most popular ones in Pattani.

Located at Tambon Panareh of the district of the same name, can be reached
by taking Highway no.42 from Pattani town for a distance of some 30 km
And turning to Highway no.4075 for a further 13 km the Panareh and Chalalai
are connecting beaches covering a length of about 4 km along the shore
of Panareh is a large fishing community with groups of native and fishing
boats anchored off-shore, affording a rustic and scenic view. To the South
is the Chalalai beach, about 2 km away, wide and sandy.
On the shore are
lines of pine trees providing cool shade for rest and relaxation.
Location : Amphoe Saiburi

The beach is about 52 km from Pattani and about 2 km from
Sai Buri. It is in Patatimo Village, TambonTaluban. Visitors can use the
Pattani-Narathiwat route or use the route passing Hat Khae Khae to Sai Buri,
or directly turn left at the junction to Sai Buri. The beach is parallel
to the pine line. Bungalows are also available for service.
Yaring Natural Study Centre
Location : Amphoe Yarang
Located
near Yamu Canal, opposite to Yaring District Hall, the centre is in Yaring
National Forest, with the area of 500 Rai. There is a 1,250 metres wooden
bridge as the walkway for natural study of the forest. Along the natural
trail, there are several species of plants, rest area and a bird-watching
tower with the height of 13 metres.
Besides, there are delightful boat trips for visitors of nature lovers.
There are 3 canals: Bang Pu, Klang, and Kolae. Along both banks, visitors
can experience the fertility of water animals, birds, local lifestyles.

Lim Kor Niew Goddess Shrine Fair is held at the Leng Chu Kiang in Pattani
town on the 15th night of the waxing moon of the 3rd month according to
the Chinese calendar, or 15 days after the traditional Chinese New Year.
The Goddess Chao Mae Lim Kor Niew and ten other deities are born in procession
to pass through the water at the Pattani River. They are then paraded back
to go through pyres of fire in front of the shrine before carried back to
go the enshrined. During the celebrations, specially larhe crowds flock
to the shrine to enjoy entertainment at night including Chinese opera, performances
by students, film screening and stalls offering inexpensive goods.
Location : Amphoe Saiburi
Is scheduled in May annually around
the Wasukri Beach in Saiburi District. Fishing is a highly popular sport
as well as an important economic enterprise. The sea along the long beach
is rich in many game fish such as the Kratongtang and the Ito Mon, and economic
fish. Apart from being and exciting and challenging sport, the event also
offers local activities such as lamb-fighting and well-known products of
Saibri, including all types of fishing accessories.

Brainchild of a former governor of
Pattani (Mr.Parakorn Suwannarath) was set up in response to suggestions
by Her Majesty Queen and mark the 50th anniversary of his Majesty the King's
Ascension to the throne in 1996. The Queen herself personally presided over
the official opening of the center on October 28, 1995. The facility also
doubles as the provincial center for local handicrafts and products. Initially,
the training concentrates on the arts, culture and traditions of the south,
including silk-weaving, making of the traditional Kris and engraving of
the Kris'hilt, replica of the Phraya Tani cannon, manufacturing of the Korlae
boat and its replica. There is also training in other vocations which can
be profitable to the trainees serving at the same time to preserver the
Southern arts and culture. Included are the making of fishing boats and
replicas of Chinese junks, production of oil paintings, fashioning of flowers
from rubber tree leaves and textile and glutinous rice flour, making of
products from coconut shells, cloth-making, hand-embroidered cloth, embroidered
wall murals and shawls for Thai Muslim women, and other basketry art. Such
products are also on sale.
Location : Amphoe Saiburi
Located at Tambon Paseyawor is about
50 km away from the provincial town or some 2 km from Saiburi District.
It is noted for production of the indigenous Korlae boats, a type of coastal
fishing vessels elaborately decorated with fascinating designs. Racing of
Korlae boats are held annually. The village also makes the Budu sauce, a
highly popular condiment among the Southern people.
