Pattaya, Chonburi Beaches & Islands

There are 3 main regions of Pattaya Beach, starting from North Pattaya (Pattaya Neau), Middle Pattaya (Pattaya Klang) and South Pattaya ( Pattaya Tai ). Jomtien Beach is also a famous beach extended from South Pattaya toward the south. Pattaya Hill (Phra Tamnak Hill) is a small peaceful area of Pattaya situated between South Pattaya and Jomtien Beach. The beach of Pattaya Hill is more peaceful and less crowded than other regions. Here you can enjoy many types of watersports.

Recommended Beaches & Islands

1 Bang Saen Beach

Location : Mueang District Bang Saen Beach Bang Saen Beach has been the favorite weekend getaway hotels and resorts for all people. The beach attracts those who enjoy strolling along the long sandy beach stretches approximately 2.5 km long and tasting the delicious seafood available from vendors along the pavement. However, the texture of the sand is fine and the gradual slope makes it nice and safe to swim. There are reasonable-priced accommodations along the beach. At the northern end of the beach, there is Laem Taen cape that serves as a public park. The nightlife here is more peaceful and easy-going compared to Pattaya beach. Therefore, it is a great spot for those who seek tranquil night by the beach.

How to get there
Bang Saen Beach is located 85 km southeast of Bangkok and 14 km from Mueang District, from Bangkok, take Bang Na-Chon Buri motorway before entering Chonburi province, turn-off to Bang Sai to the right. On the right, there is a new road going straight to the beach.

Location : Jomtien Beach Rd. Jomtien Beach Jomtien Beach is about 6 kilometers long with clean and quite beach. The Beach is fringed with pine trees, quite narrow and has a small slope into the sea. Most of tourists both Thai and foreigner like to do many activities along the Jomtien Beach such as Banana Boat, Jet Ski etc.

There are restaurants and cafes along the beach for tourists to enjoy fresh seafood and drinks while looking out into the sea. Entertainment and leisure activities are ample to enjoy a lively nigh tout. A galore of water sports are available including kite surf, para sail, jet ski and windsurf.

3 Na Jomtien Beach

Location : Sattahip District Na Jomtien Beach Na Jomtien Beach has many hotels and resorts on the beach unlike Pattaya and Jomtien such as Pinnacle Resort, Baramie Residence, The Ambassador, Dor Shada and Botany Beach Resort. Besides the resorts there are 5 or 6 beach bars, restaurants, massage, kite boarding, wind surfing and even tattoo parlors.

How to get there
Na Jomtien Beach is located 2.9 km south of Jomtien.

4 Naklua Beach

Location : Naklua Beach Rd., North Pattaya Naklua Beach Naklua Beach is located in Pattaya, Chon Buri. It is the most northerly of the bays and by far the quietest. Naklua Beach is also a centre for windsurfers and windsurfing equipment can be hired from the beach.

5 Naul Beach (Nual Beach)

Location : South East of Koh Larn Naul Beach (Nual Beach) Naul beach is another nice beach on Koh Larn. Naul is a mid sized beach but has the most coconut trees of any other beach on the island. This beach seems to be very seasonal in as far as tourist and sometimes it can be almost deserted in off season. If a deserted beach is what you like then you might try here first, off season occurs between April and late October. If you come here during this time you should bring your own stuff like towels to lay out on and some drinks and food.

6 Pattaya Beach

Location : South Pattaya Pattaya Beach Pattaya Beach is situated along the central city in close proximity to shopping, hotels and bars. The beaches are popular and busy places. For the thrill-seekers, activities include banana-boat rides, jet-skiing, water-skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, and the like and anyone who just wants to enjoy a simple swim or a good splash around with a frisbee or rented inner tube will always find themselves with plenty of company. However, while in and beyond the surf, a wary eye does need to be kept on the more frenetic elements of the passing traffic.

How to get there
From Bangkok, take Motor Way (Bangkok-Chonburi Rd.), drive along Sukhumvit Rd., pass Si Racha and Banglamung districts until km 147 marker. You will reach the route to South Pattaya.

7 Samae Beach

Location : West of Koh Larn Samae Beach Samae Beach is located at the west of Koh Larn. The sun is a little strong in the afternoon but the solemnly quiet is good for those who need privacy. There is no Jet Ski, no boats as other beaches. However, several restaurants for food and drinks can be of your choice for the service.

8 Sungwal Beach (Sangwan Beach)

Location : West of Koh Larn Sungwal Beach (Sangwan Beach) This is another small beach closed to Ta Waen Beach. You need to go west from the right side of the pier in order to get to this beach. There is the wood bridge setting beautifully merged from the beach to the sea.

9 Tawaen Beach

Location : North of Koh Larn Tawaen Beach Tawaen Beach is by far the most developed and the most visited beach on Koh Larn. On any given day by my estimate there are well over a thousand visitors, if not more, come to this beach. On the weekend that number may double for many people come down from Bangkok to enjoy a weekend of relaxation on the beach far removed from city life. This is also a place that attracts international tourist from all over the globe. Most any major language can be understood here to a certain degree, for the people that work here cater to international travelers on a daily basis. Most of the restaurants will specialize in one or two types of international cuisine, one may specialize in Russian food whereas another may serve Chinese and so on. All the activities can be found here, there's even a submarine to view coral reefs.

10 Ta Yai Beach and Hua Kod Cape

Location : North East of Koh Larn Ta Yai Beach and Hua Kod Cape It is the small beach for the tourists to get away from the crowd. It gives you the privacy environment. Nevertheless, a few services on Jet Ski and Banana Boat make noise to this place; so not to be too quiet.

11 Tien Beach (Thien Beach)

Location : West of Koh Larn Tien Beach (Thien Beach) Tien Beach is over the other side of the mountains from Na Ban so it's best to get a taxi here, also the roads are very steep, on the way you will pass a viewing point but the taxies don't bother stopping, 30baht for a taxi or 40baht on the back of a motorbike.

Once you are dropped off it's a couple of minutes walk to the beach itself. The view from where you are dropped off, the beach is on the far side of the bay.

12 Tonglang Beach

Location : North of Koh Larn Tonglang Beach Tonglang is a mid sized beach. The stretch of sand here is narrower here than the other beaches, but there still is plenty of area to stretch out on. Tonglang is accessible by boat there are no roads to this beach. It is also accessible by hiking down a steep narrow path that I don't recommend see photo below. I personally have been to this beach only once mainly because of the hike there for I don't have many photos or much information about this beach.

13 Wong Amat Beach

Location : North of Pattaya Wong Amat Beach This is the next beach North of Pattaya, sometimes called Wong Amart Beach, this area Weiner Snitznal is more popular than Fried Rice in the local restaurants and more hotels in Wong Amat Beach.

Actually the German restaurants are extremely good around this area and well worth a visit, plus it's only a 10baht taxi ride into Pattaya for the more wilder life style.

Anyway the first beach is really nice and secluded, no touts here to annoy your day, there is one big main restaurant on the beach which looks quite nice and a couple of Thai food stalls set up on the beach sidewalk, the second beach is the pits, as you walk the nice clean sandy beach to the rocky bit on your left, you will find another nice cove, but as you get closer you will be disgusted by all the trash in the sea and on the beach.

14 Wong Prachan Beach

Location : North of Pattaya Wong Prachan Beach Wong Prachan Beach is 1 km stretch of beach on the northern side of Pattaya Bay. Wong Prachan Beach is a quiet, and offers an exclusive serene beach that is best for swimming and relaxation. There are no shops or nightlife, and only fine high-rise hotels and condominiums in the area.

1 Koh Larn (Larn Island)

Location : South of Pattaya Koh Larn (Larn Island) Lying about 7.5 kilometers off of Pattaya by a 45-minute ferry or 15 minutes by speed boat ride, the island measures 2 kilometers by 5 kilometers and offers several white sandy beaches, notably Hat Ta Waen, Hat Laem Thian and Hat Thong Long, the latter facing coral reefs. Visitors can choose either snorkeling or viewing the coral from glass bottom boats. Ferries to the island leave South Pattaya pier daily from 10:00 am. to 06:30 pm. Cruises by sailing junks, with lunch provided are also available.

How to get there
A ferry service departs Laem Bali Hai Pier to Koh Lan everyday. Departure time is from 07:00 am. - 06:30 pm., while the arrival trips leave Ko Lan from 06:30 am. - 06:00 pm. It costs 20 Baht. 5 Phai Island (Koh Phai)

Location : West of Pattaya Phai Island (Koh Phai) Phai Island is the largest island in Mu Phai Island, a small uninhabited archipelago belonging to the Eastern Seaboard Islands of Thailand. It is located about 21 km to the west of Pattaya. It is also mentioned as "Bamboo Island", the meaning of its name in Thai, in tourist guides. This island is located at the SE end of the Bay of Bangkok, on the eastern side of the Gulf of Siam. Administratively Phai Island belongs to the Amphoe Bang Lamung, Chonburi Province.

Phai Island is almost 4 km in length and its maximum width is about 1.5 km. It is a quite craggy wooded island and a great part of its coast is formed by rocky cliffs. The whole island is high, but its highest point is only 150 m and there is not a single peak dominating above the others. There is a light house on the summit of the island.

"Phai Island" is the name of the island in the Royal Thai General System of Transcription. It is also known as "Koh Pai" in the English-based Thai transcription that is now becoming obsolete.

How to get there
The closest land to the Phai Island group is Koh Larn, located about 14 km to the east of Phai Island's eastern shore. These islands can be reached in about 2 hours by boat from Southern Pattaya harbor. The rental rate depends on the size of the boat and the destination. All these islands are a protected natural area under the supervision of the Royal Thai Navy.
