King Naresuan the Great Shrine
There are several important places inside the province that provide visitors with an opportunity to explore
some vital parts of Thai history. One such place is the Shrine of King Naresuan the Great, one of the most
popular places inside the city of Phitsanulok.
Religious Site
Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat
Location : Amphoe Mueang
Located by the Nan River near Buddhabucha Rd, Tambon Nai Mueang, Amphoe Mueang, the monastery was founded in
the reign of Phra Maha Dhammaraja Lithai of Sukhothai Kingdom in 1900 B.E. As a first class temple or Woramahavihar,
Wat Phra Sri or Wat Yai as people called hourse Phra Buddhachinnaraij, Thailand’s most beautiful image of Buddha.
To pay homage to the Buddha image, annual ceremony is held from the 6th 12th days of the 3rd lunar month. Apart
from Phra Buddhachinnaraj, Phra Attharot stands behind the Vihar of Phra Buddhachinnaraj. And behind Phra Attharot
is erected the Ayudhya-style pagoda or Phra Prang.
Wat Ratchaburana and Wat Nang Phya
Location : Amphoe Mueang
Located east of Wat Rajburana, the temple has no ordination hall. In 2444 B.E., a hole containing Phra Nang Phaya,
smail images of Buddha, was discovered. The Buddha images found are later very popular among those who interested
in amulets.
Wat Chulamani
Location : Amphoe Mueang
Located by the Nan River, about 5 kms away from town, the temple used to be location of the old city of Phitsanulok.
According to Thai history, Somdej Phra Borom Trailokkanat of Ayudhya and his 2,348 followers were ordained here in
2007 B.E. Within the monastery are housed stone inscription, Mondop, the Buddha’s footprint invented during the reign
of King Naral the Great.
Wat Phra Buddhabat Khao Samo Khraeng
Location : Amphoe Mueang

Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat
lies 14 km off Mueang Phitsanulok on Phitsanulok-Lom Sak Road. Inside the temple are a miniature Buddha footprint
and a footprint on the mountain's wall. A large white jade Bodhisattva Kuan - Im image the most beautiful Kuan - Im
image in the world from China - was enshrined in this temple in early 1992.
Wat Aranyik
Location : Amphoe Mueang
Located on east bank of the Nan River , about one km away from the city fort, Phya Sua Rd , the temple was
constructed in the Sukhothai Period. Surrounded by ditches, the monastery houses the Lankan-style Chedi.
Palaces
Chan Palace
Location : Amphoe Mueang
Erected in the Phitsanulok Phitthayakom Schook close to town hail, the location of the shtine used to be the Chan
palace of King Naresuan the Great. Within the shrine is housed the his statue. To mark the grandeur of King
Naresuan, annual ceremony is held on January 25.
Museums
Sergent - Major Dr. Thawi-Pim Buranakhet' s Folklore Museum
Location : Amphoe Mueang
Located opposite the Buranathai Buddha Image foundry, Wisutkasat road, Amphoe Muang. This museum is well know for its collections of all folk-arts, crafts,
basketry, pottery and ancient kitchen utensils. In addition to these, there also are instruments for agriculture occupation and household living displayed.
Open Hours : 08.30 am. - 04.30 pm. Closed on Monday.
Textile Museum and Life Museum
Location : Amphoe Mueang
Located on the second floor of the multi-purpose building of Naresuan University, the Textile Museum displays textiles and garments from
different sources domestically and internationally. The museum houses documents and research studies regarding textiles and royal suits of
Their Majesties the King and Queen that were conferred to the university. Nearby is a Life Museum that displays the Thai way of cotton
weaving, from cotton growing to high-class techniques in weaving. A weaving demonstration is available every weekend.
Open Hours : both museums are open daily from 8.30 am. - 4.30 p.m.
Exhibition Centres
Art & Culture Gallery, Naresuan University (Sanambin Campus)
Location : Amphoe Mueang
The Gallery is established with an aim to promote and preserve Thai arts and culture. Located at the resource
centre on Sanam Bin Rd., the Gallery is divided into 3 sections including; Art Gallery: over 100 masterpieces
of renowned Thai artists such as: Chuan Leakpai Thailand's former Prime Minister), Sawasdi Tantisuk (National
Artist in visual Arts field), Phun Ketchamrat (National Artist in visual Arts field), Priyuan Aruchata (National
Artist in visual Arts field), Pratuang Emjaroen, Chavalit Saemprungsuk, Chung Moonphinit and Chalermchai Khosipipat
are on display.
Museum: Under the concept, "The Way of Life of The People in the Lower North", more than 500 handicrafts including
household utensils, agricultural tools and manuscripts are exhibited.

Phitsanulok Night Bazaar located on the road and near Nan river. Beautiful Building and parallel to the river,
shops and restaurants, souvenir products for many tourist destinations in the evening of one of the Phitsanulok
Province.
Public Park
Nan Riverside Park and Boathouse Museum
Location : Amphoe Mueang
The park, which was built by Phitsanulok Municipality in 2002, is situated in the middle of the town, on the eastern
bank of Nan river. Inside the park, is a Boathouse Museum showcasing the daily life of people living in boathouses.
Somdej Phra Borom Trailokkanat Park
Location : Amphoe Wang Thong
Situated in Tambon Wang Thong, Amphoe Wang Thong, about 3 kms away from the district’s office,
the 200-meter-high hill with a pond located atop renders wonderful views. In the past, 7 temples were founded
nearby . At present only two monasteries, Wat Phra Buddhabath Khao Samor Kraeng and
Wat Rajakiri Hiranyaram, are left, Within the Rajakiri hiranyaram temple is housed the wourld’s most beautiful
white jade Bodhisattva Guan Im.
Natural Attractions
Duean Dao Cave
Location : Amphoe Wang Thong

National Park
Situated in the western territory of Thung Salaeng Luang National Park, the cave has a subterranean river running
through it. Visitors have to climb over rocks at the cave’s entrance to get in, just to find a large chamber and
subterranean river. At the length of 1.4 kilometres, the cave is beautified with stalagmites and stalactites. It
can be visited during the dry season and a personal torch is required. High water during rainy season makes it
dangerous to visit.
How to get there : The cave is 85 kilometres from downtown Phitsanulok.
Kaeng Song Waterfall
Location : Amphoe Wang Thong
Kaeng Song Waterfall is an attractive field in Salang Luang National Park. In Phitsanulok. Located at Tambon
Kaeng Song. Along Highway 12 around 45 km from the river Khek reduce the stream look like a waterfall Larger
than a shrimp Mano Thayan waterfall on the same route. Kaeng Song Waterfall area. Have different homes. Waterfall
is located. A suspension bridge walk sightseeing Khek River and across to the village opposite. By the way near
the Kaeng Song Waterfall Restaurant and Coffee Shop service Khek water rafting, exciting fun. Cruise only during
flood season around August to October.
Poi Waterfall
Location : Amphoe Wang Thong
A sign at km. 61 reads Suan pa Khao Krayang and introduces a 2-kilometre access road to Poi Waterfall, Which is
distinguished by a copious flow and profuse rocky outcropping. Many species of flowering trees grace the area.
Kaeng Sopha Waterfall
Location : Amphoe Wang Thong
This waterfall, Phitsanulok's largest, is located 2 kilometres off of Km. 70 marker along Highway No. 12. It is
possible to walk around and explore the rocky surroundings especially during the dry season. This 2-tiered waterfall
cascades down the steep cliffs to 3 the rocks below providing a different ambience for every season.
Other Acttractions
House Boat
Location : Amphoe Mueang
The house boat serves as a signature of Phitsanulok. From north to south along both sides of Nan River, house boats
and rafts are lined up, creating a unique perspective for tourists. In addition to the display of the typical
Phitsanulok way of life emphasis is placed on the strong connection between man and the river. Hardly seen anywhere
else in the Northern region, the house boat represents the serene ambience of a united community.
Buranathai Buddha Casting Foundry
Location : Amphoe Mueang
Located opposite the Sgt. Maj. Dr. Thavis Museum is a small bronze Buddha image casting foundry, which is the only of its kind in the
province. The foundry allows visitors with the opportunity to witness skilled craftspersons working on the reproduction of Phra Buddha
Chinnarat images. It is possible to actually walk along the production line to see the whole bronze-casting process. In addition, huge
Buddha images are also cast here.
