Introduction
In addition to its importance in the history of Thailand, Phitsanulok features rivers, mountains, and forests,
ideal for lovers of natural beauty. Once named Song Khwae, meaning two rivers, Phitsanulok is situated between
the Nan and Khwae Noi Rivers, which is also a strategic location between Thailand's central plains, northern mountains,
and northeastern plateau. Phitsanulok is therefore a natural hub and an ideal base for travelers wishing to explore
the lower North and western Northeast. However, Phitsanulok is more than just a stopover for tourists;
it is a province with a number of tourism opportunities. While most of Phitsanulok's terrain is flatlands,

Nakhon Thai Flag-erection Festival
Annually held on the 14th day of the 12th lunar month by the Nakhon Thai people, the festival was believingly
otignated from the day when Khun Bang Klang Hao, the ruler of Muang Bang Yang or the present Nakhon Thai,
erected the flag atop the Chang Luang hill marking his victory over the Khmer troop. Flag procession,
hill-upclimbing and beauty contests are highlights of the fair.
