Samut Songkhram Province
Amphawa Floating Market
Amphawa Floating Market
Samut Songkhram is a small province located just southwest of Bangkok, along the Gulf of Thailand, just about 72 kilometers. Samut Songkhram is the province of fertile land, of plants and food grains, the production source of vegetables and fruits, as well as a vast variety of seafood products. It is also an interesting historical source for the early Rattanakosin period.

There is no evidence to indicate the establishment of the city of Samut Songkhram. It is presumed to have been a former district of Ratchaburi called “Suan Nok”(outside garden). Then, during the transition from the Ayutthaya to the Thon Buri periods, it was separated from Ratchaburi and named “Mueang Mae Klong.”

Attractions of Samut Songkhram include floating markets (Amphawa Floating Market), temples (Wat Bang Kung), a Siamese cat house, and the Ban Phaya So - the home of a famous alto fiddle maker who combines the art of traditional Thai music with wood carving and etc.
